Reviews & Awards
Our guests tell us our Bed and Breakfast is better than many 5-star hotels they have stayed in.
The memory of the thrill when reading the first comment in our traditional guestbook remains very much alive. Our visitors’ comments are a pick-me-up on a rainy day in front of the fire because they warm from within. We are delighted to be able to share some of the wonderful comments our guests have written in our “old-fashioned” guest book in Westwood as well as the reviews and awards we have gratefully received over the years. We treasure these comments and continue to add to them over the years.
Full comments and names are in our handwritten guest book which is open to further guests when they stay with us in Westwood. Of course, we also have reviews online from wonderful people who take the time and trouble to write on various portals. We express our heartfelt thanks to them, too, because small businesses really need this sort of support. You can read some of them below. Thank you for your interest!
EXCELLENT Based on 28 reviews Posted on Thomas Jones11 June 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My wife and I have stayed at Westwood many times since 2018 and always enjoy the warm welcome we always get from the lovely hosts, Judith and Peter. This June 2025 was just as welcoming. Nothing is too much trouble for them to make our stay as relaxing as possible. They serve a magnificent breakfast with lots of choice. With dedicated guest entrance and a spacious guests lounge. Each room has it's own fridge and fresh milk every day.Posted on Zahra Hosseini30 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Excellent stay and experience. Place itself is wonderful, clean and pleasant. Judith and Peter are great host, we even asked for some food recommendations and all turn to be excellent. Can not recommend enough.Posted on Andrew Prodromo26 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. This was mine and my partners 2nd stay within the same month! Judith and Peter are amazing hosts and our second visit was made to feel just as special as the first and to the same high standard. This time around, we stayed in Blue Willow, which was a very lovely room with great views from the window. You get plenty of teas/coffees and this includes your own coffee machine! biscuits are also provided and my partner had gluten free ones specially provided- thank you! We also opted for the afternoon tea add-on and WOW - we definitely recommend. Incredible value for money and we each got lovely scones ( gluten free was provided for our needs too - hooray!), lots of cream, jam and coffee (you can pick tea if you prefer) - it was delicious! To enjoy these with the stunning view of the fells was a real treat. Breakfast was once again exceptional. It's a really varied menu with so much choice. They catered for my coeliac partner too so if you have any dietary requirements, just let them know. We hadn't expected to visit again so soon, but when the weather was forecasted to be so sunny, the was nowhere else we'd rather stay! Thank you Judith and Peter from us both for making each visit so memorable!Posted on Liv10 May 2025Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. My partner and I stayed at the Westwood B&B with a View last weekend for a couple nights and wow did we have a great stay! There's so many wonderful things we have to say about this B&B so we'll break it down: Arrival - We were warmly greeted by Judith and Peter and shown our room (which had a lovely note and chocolates waiting for us). - We were shown around the rest of the B&B and the spacious shared living room (where breakfasts are served) which has the MOST STUNNING views of the fells in the Lake District. Breakfast Hands down we had the best breakfasts we've ever had whilst away. Judith and Peter put so much effort into the options available (you can choose your preferences the night before) and Peter has also introduced a new addition to the menu which my partner loved (he had halloumi on a ciabatta drizzled with agave and served with salad). I went for the "Big One" (a larger version of the English Breakfast which was fantastic). I need to add here that I am coeliac and so I cannot consume any gluten - Judith and Peter catered for my needs and I felt very safe to eat here (they even bought in gluten free biscuits for me!) It's one thing finding somewhere to cater for an autoimmune diesese or allergy, but it's another for this to be so delicious too! 10/10 from us both. The Hosts Judith and Peter are outstanding hosts. You leave feeling as though you've known them longer - they're just such down to earth people who want their guests to have the best time. They have so much passion for their business and deserve all the praise they can get! Also 10/10! The Location We enjoyed some very wholesome walks just down the road to stroll beside the river and through the local fields to say hello to all the lambs and sheep! It is very peaceful here. Cockermouth town is about a ten minute drive away with lovely independent shops and Buttermere is only about a half hour drive away. Departure We didn't want to leave and we're excited for our next visit! We paid for our breakfasts and Judith and Peter gave us a farewell note, loyalty card and a chocolate for the road! Thank you Judith and Peter for such a lovely and memorable time - your B&B is beautiful!Posted on Elma Logan2 November 2024Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I would just like to say A big Thank you to Judith and Peter who are the lovely Proprietor’s of Westwood B&B Cockermouth. The view from Westwood is Beautiful. The bedrooms are spacious and spotless with great decor and lovely bedding. The breakfast was all fresh food. You receive a menu the day before, which has a large variety of choice. Nothing is to much trouble for this lovely couple. I recommend others visit I don’t believe you will regret it. It was my first visit and I hope to go back again. Fantastic stay from the moment we arrived until the moment we left couldn't have gone any betterPosted on Keith Fisher21 July 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. The hosts aim to practice hospitality - and they do it very well! A great welcome and attention to detail to ensure that everything is in place to give you an enjoyable stay. Add to that an amazing view from the sitting/breakfast area and the outdoor seating terrace towards Skiddaw and the Northern Fells of the Lake District and a lovely breakfast. We enjoyed it - thank you!Posted on C. Lensen12 June 2023Trustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google.
